Taco Hemingway

Artist ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap

Polish rapper Taco Hemingway became a superstar in his country in the late 2010s. He was never known for political content until his controversial 2020 single “Polskie Tango.”

• Hemingway’s music journey began in his late teens. He recorded his earliest songs in his mother’s basement around 17 years old.
• In 2011, he issued his English-language debut mixtape, Who Killed JFK?, under the moniker Foodvillain.
• As Taco Hemingway, he offered 2014’s gold-certified Trójkąt Warszawski, his first Polish-language project and, thus, his first widely successful release.
• Hemingway’s 2016 debut album, Marmur, earned a platinum certification and a nomination for Hip-Hop/R&B Album of the Year at the Fryderyk Awards.
• He and fellow Polish rapper Quebonafide formed the rap duo Taconafide. In 2018, they released their diamond-certified Soma 0,5 Mg.
• In July 2020, Hemingway and rapper Lanek issued “Polskie Tango.” The political single condemned Poland’s right-wing government and was met with backlash from Polish conservatives.
• Hemingway followed up shortly after with Jarmark and Europa. The albums hit No. 1 and No. 2 on the Polish Charts, respectively.
