Social House

Artist ∙ Pop

The R&B/pop production and songwriting team Social House thrive on collaboration. In 2019, the pair broke out after co-producing Ariana Grande’s slinky hip-hop smash “7 rings” and her whimsical kiss-off “thank u, next”—and then had their own hit with the Grande-featuring “Boyfriend,” a chill ode to slippery relationship statuses. Luckily, the duo—Michael “Mikey” Foster and Charles “Scootie” Anderson—view career success as a balance between making music for themselves and writing songs with others. “I want to hear somebody else’s story,” Foster told Apple Music in 2019. “I want to see what they’re going through; I want to actually collab with some people who are better than me or super dope.” That yearning for idea-swapping drove Social House’s formation: In the mid-2010s, Foster and Anderson—who had separately moved from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles—started creating together after meeting in a production house. (Their name came from a Wi-Fi network.) The duo debuted in 2018 with the aspirational “Magic in the Hamptons,” which featured rapper Lil Yachty, and followed that with 2019’s Everything Changed… EP, highlighted by the acoustic-guitar-tinted “Haunt You.” True to form, the bittersweet song is about being heartbroken over a lapsed love—and lamenting that being alone pales in comparison to coupledom.
