King Promise

Artist ∙ Afrobeats

Ghanaian songwriter and performer King Promise said that he “stumbled into making music,” citing an impromptu recording session made while visiting a friend as his career catalyst.

∙ He initially released music as Boy P, but he changed his name after signing a record deal with the label run by the legendary Ghanaian producer Killbeatz.
∙ King Promise broke through in 2016 with his Afropop-influenced debut single, “Thank God,” which featured British-Ghanaian rapper Fuse ODG.
∙ He cowrote the soulful Adina R&B song “Too Late,” which won Record of the Year at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards.
∙ The breezy 2018 song “CCTV,” which featured R2Bees member Mugeez and rapper Sarkodie, hit No. 1 on Ghana’s singles chart.
∙ He appeared twice on Apple Music’s Top 100 Top Songs of 2019: Sub-Saharan Africa list—once as a featured voice on Mr. Eazi’s “Dabebi” and again for his Wizkid-featuring solo track, “Tokyo.”
