Tom MacDonald

Artist ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap

Tom MacDonald is a controversial Canadian rapper who’s earned praise and scorn for his songs about race, political correctness, the state of hip-hop, and other hot-button issues.

• Before he got into rapping, MacDonald spent his teen years working as a professional wrestler in Canada.
• The rapper cites classic rock bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Aerosmith as his main influences.
• MacDonald released his debut album, LeAnn’s Son, in 2014.
• On songs like “WHITEBOY” (2018), “Everybody Hates Me” (2018), and “Straight White Male” (2019), MacDonald riffs on what he perceives to be the unfair stereotypes facing white men. The songs drew criticism in some circles while racking up millions of streams.
• In March 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic gained steam, MacDonald released “Coronavirus.” In the song, he accuses the government of lying and declares, “We’re in this together.”
• MacDonald is after an “emotional response” from listeners—he wants you to love him or hate him, nothing in between.
