Conrad Sewell

Artist ∙ Pop

Conrad Sewell’s nimble vocals can inject fire into a feel-good dance banger or tearful break-up ballad and leave you swooning either way. The Australian singer/songwriter showed that prowess in 2014 as a writer and vocalist on Kygo’s tropical house hit “Firestone,” and a year later with the chart-topping “Start Again.” But before all that, the Brisbane-born Sewell was a rock hopeful fronting the band Sons of Midnight. “I wanted to eventually move away from rock 'n' roll and do something a bit more soulful,” he told Apple Music. A move to L.A. helped push him in that direction, and he released his 2015 debut EP, All I Know, featuring the aforementioned “Start Again” and soaring pop anthems like “Hold Me Up.” But life in the City of Angels also brought unexpected challenges. Battling addiction, Sewell took the next four years to release his debut album, LIFE, a heartbreaking but soul-freeing gospel-tinged collection that documents his struggles with girls, sobriety, and his own ego.
