Singer and actress Pia Mia got started posting videos of herself singing covers before connecting with music-biz heavyweights after moving to Los Angeles from her native Guam.
• She had help from a viral moment: In 2013, Pia Mia’s friend Kylie Jenner invited her over for dinner, where Pia Mia sang an impromptu version of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”—in front of Drake. Jenner’s half-sister Kim Kardashian posted a video of the performance online, garnering a million views.
• Pia Mia released her first single soon after. “Red Love” appeared on her debut EP, The Gift, though her 2015 single “Do It Again,” featuring Chris Brown and Tyga, marked her first time hitting the charts.
• She teamed with Chance the Rapper in 2014 on the song “Fight for You,” which appeared on the soundtrack of the dystopian sci-fi movie Divergent.
• Pia Mia made her acting debut in the 2019 film After.
