Two Feet

Artist ∙ Alternative

Two Feet is an old soul making timeless blues for a new era. Born Zachary William Dess in New York in 1993, he dropped out of the famed Berklee College of Music to focus on his own music career, a gamble that eventually paid off in 2016. Late one night, he came home from a bar and uploaded a song he’d dashed out that day, “Go F**k Yourself,” a gritty kiss-off tackling decidedly adult themes of drinks, sex, and dejection, set to an achingly sensual guitar. By morning, the messages were rolling in and a recording contract followed soon after.
Despite the viral backstory, Two Feet doesn’t fit the profile of the typical overnight sensation. He marries blues guitar to skeletal hip-hop beats and stark, grinding bass, while the faint rasp in his voice suggests a tumbler of whiskey served neat. It’s a dark, slightly dangerous sound—a mood matched by his witching-hour ruminations that tend to revolve around co-dependence and self-destruction. Two Feet has been remarkably consistent since his debut, expanding his sound across a string of EPs in the lead-up to his debut full-length, 2020’s Pink. On that record, electronic drums ride higher in the mix and pulsing synths stir the simmering mood, but no matter the blend of the old school and the new, the end goal remains the same—to capture a feeling honestly, with effortless style.
