Skylar Grey

Artist ∙ Pop

Along with her own work, singer and songwriter Skylar Grey has collaborated with some of the biggest names in 21st-century hip-hop and pop.

• Grey began singing at age two, and as a child, she occasionally performed with her mother in a folk duo called Generations. They recorded three albums together and toured in the Midwest.
• She was 17 when she signed a publishing deal with Universal Music as Holly Brook, her first and middle names. She released three EPs and her full-length debut, 2006’s Like Blood Like Honey, before changing her stage name to Skylar Grey in 2011.
• Grey toured as part of pop singer Duncan Sheik’s band and sang on nine of the 10 tracks on his 2009 album Whisper House.
• She began collaborating with English songwriter and producer Alex da Kid in 2010. Eminem and Rihanna teamed up to record the first song they finished, “Love the Way You Lie.”
• Grey performed with Eminem and Dr. Dre on “I Need a Doctor,” which she co-wrote, at the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011—her national TV debut.
• Her first album as Skylar Grey, 2013’s Don’t Look Down, reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
• She has described her 2020 project Dark Thoughts as “an endless playlist that I just keep adding to.” She released the title track as the first song on what she’s calling an “open-ended album,” followed by “Goosebumps” and then “Sunscreen.”
