Daniel Avery

Artist ∙ Electronic

With one foot in rave and the other in post-punk, Daniel Avery’s music fuses euphoria and desolation. Born in Bournemouth, England, in 1986, Avery began DJing as a teen, signing up for a warm-up slot at the local club where he danced to New Wave and electroclash. After two short years under the alias Stopmakingme, he began releasing 12-inches under his own name in 2012, the same year he established his DJ bona fides with his FABRICLIVE 66 mix. By his 2013 debut album, Drone Logic, his wiry, acidic techno was beginning to balloon in proportion, turning noisy and psychedelic, and he’s kept moving outward: Ambient and dub techno fuel 2018’s Song for Alpha, while his 2020 Alessandro Cortini collaboration, Illusion of Time, burrows deep into synthesized soundscapes, and 2020’s Love + Light slips between cavernous club jams and gossamer atmospheres. And with 2022’s Ultra Truth, he shrouded jungle breaks in shoegaze fuzz, forever in pursuit of dance-floor transcendence.
