Labrinth

Artist ∙ Pop

As a singer, rapper, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, there’s little that the not-so-easily defined Labrinth can’t do, musically speaking. Born Timothy Lee McKenzie in London in 1989, the multitalented musician hit his stride when, after a couple years of guest spots, production credits, and a remix of Gorillaz’s “Stylo” to his credit, he was noticed by Simon Cowell. The American Idol and The X Factor judge was so impressed that Labrinth became the first act in six years to sign to Cowell’s multimedia entertainment company without competing on a talent show. Labrinth made his debut with 2012’s Electronic Earth, a bold pop record with its sights set on futuristic sounds but also embracing the genre’s history through funky moments like the explosive “Express Yourself,” which references the namesake ‘70s classic. He’s been a frequent collaborator since the beginning of his career, appearing on singles by acts like Tinie Tempah and The Weeknd (the dance-floor-ready “Losers”), producing for Ed Sheeran and Noah Cyrus, teaming up with Sia and Diplo to create the supergroup LSD, and writing music for the hit, Zendaya-starring HBO show, Euphoria. In 2019, he released a second full-length, Imagination & the Misfit Kid, a kaleidoscopic offering that combines pop, soul, funk, psychedelia, and more in idiosyncratic harmony.
