Andrew Lloyd Webber

Artist ∙ Musicals

Known for some of the world’s best-loved musicals, Andrew Lloyd Webber is the most commercially successful composer in history.

∙ Lloyd Webber’s early collaborations with acclaimed lyricist Tim Rice resulted in the hit shows Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita.
∙ The blockbuster show Cats premiered in London in 1981. Inspired by the poems of T.S. Eliot, it was the first musical Lloyd Webber composed without a lyricist.
∙ In production since 1988, The Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running show in Broadway history, and the musical’s original 1986 London recording is the best-selling cast album of all time.
∙ After being knighted by Queen Elizabeth and appointed an Honorary Life Peer, Lloyd Webber served in Britain’s House of Lords as a member of the Conservative Party.
∙ He is the only composer other than Rodgers & Hammerstein to have four musicals on Broadway at the same time: Sunset Boulevard, School of Rock, Phantom of the Opera, and Cats.
∙ As the winner of an Emmy, four Grammys, one Oscar, and six Tonys, he is one of the select few people to have achieved EGOT status.
