Ingrid Michaelson

Artist ∙ Pop

Ingrid Michaelson’s rose-tinted pop trades in the wistful and romantic, whether she’s singing folk ditties or ‘80s-inspired synth-pop. Born in 1979 in New York City, she started playing piano at four years old and explored music and theatre throughout her early education and into university. Her 2006 independently released debut album, Girls And Boys, attracted the attention of major labels and a producer for the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, where Michaelson’s stirring lyricism and impassioned delivery on songs like “Breakable” fit right in. But it was bouncy folk-pop single “The Way I Am” that made the real splash, going Platinum and showcasing the songwriter’s gift for catchy melodies. Michaelson has since sculpted soaring orchestral pop on Lights Out (2014), drenched her songs in synth for the Stranger Things-inspired Stranger Songs (2019), and teamed up with pop star ZAYN for the powerful duet “To Begin Again” (2021), proving her heart-on-sleeve hooks mesmerize in multiple styles.
