LD

Artist ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap

The enigmatic and rebellious LD perfectly exemplifies UK drill. As part of the south London rap collective 67, LD (born Cassiel Wuta-Ofei in 1992) spearheaded the United Kingdom’s iteration of the Chicago-born sound with 2014’s “Live Corn.” The self-proclaimed godfather of UK drill has had numerous legal battles, including being issued an antisocial behavior order (ASBO) which banned the rapper, then known as Scribz, from making music for two years. The 2014 order prompted the rapper to adopt his new alias and don an MF Doom-esque mask in order to continue making music. Over haunting synths and woozy basslines, LD raps with a murky flow about dealing drugs, troubles with the law, and the realities of life on road.
