Manchester Collective

Artist ∙ Classical

Responding to what they see as a contraction in the world of British classical music, the Manchester Collective seeks to reshape the tradition, not only as to repertory but also as to the venues in which it is presented. The Collective is noted for collaborating with other artists, both within and beyond the classical sphere. The Manchester Collective was formed in 2016 in the northern English city for which it is named and gave its first concerts the following year. The founders were violinist Rakhi Singh and cellist Adam Szabo. The Collective has commissioned new works from such composers as Edmund Finnis and Hannah Peel. Especially characteristic of the group's activities has been its range of collaborations with other artists, such as cellist Abel Selaocoe and harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani. In 2024, the Manchester Collective backed soprano Ruby Hughes on her BIS album End of My Days.
