(G)I-DLE

Artist ∙ K-Pop

(G)I-DLE refuses to be siloed into any societal norms. It starts with the name—the “(G)” in the K-pop girl group’s name stands for “girl” but is pronounced silently, a reflection of the Seoul-based quintet’s aim to be known beyond its public-facing identity. (G)I-DLE’s bold, defiant pop music shatters expectations with every release, whether through the gender-rebellious rock of “TOMBOY” or the booming electro-house anthem “Super Lady.” Taking inspiration from feminist icons both historical and fictitious, (G)I-DLE—Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua—both pokes fun at and confronts public perceptions of femininity. Since debuting in 2018 with the tropical pop single “LATATA,” (G)I-DLE has released music reclaiming bimbo identities in the sassy-cute “Queencard” and channeling Marilyn Monroe’s unabashed sexuality in the burlesque-tinged “Nxde.” And in the studio, (G)I-DLE stands out among its peers—Soyeon, the group’s fierce leader and rapper, writes and produces the majority of (G)I-DLE’s catalog, developing new music, visuals, and thematic concepts with her fellow members’ personalities in mind.
