Coi Leray

Artist ∙ Hip-Hop/Rap

With a mix of twitchy raps, colorful soundscapes, and diaphanous melodies, Coi Leray makes soundtracks for a playgirl's wonderland. Born Coi Leray Collins to rapper Benzino in 1997, she began her career with 2018's "G.A.N," a fierce response to A Boogie wit da Hoodie's "D.T.B." Riding the momentum of the release, she unloaded Everythingcoz, a debut mixtape that crystallized her penchant for quirky flows and sing-song verses. She reinforced her approach with EC2 a year later. Between 2022 and 2023, she leveled up again with her first two albums, Trendsetter and COI. Coated in stuttering couplets, braggadocio, vulnerability, and supple flourishes of soprano, the LPs revealed a Leray in command of her growing powers—techniques that enable her to flip sounds on their head for Gen Z baddie anthems. For her biggest song to that point, she turns Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's 1982 single "The Message" into an emblematic track that reaffirms the immutable truth that girls can be “Players,” too.
