German Croatian DJ and producer Topic creates what he calls “melancholic dance music,” a combination of house rhythms, catchy melodies, and soul-stirring vocals. It’s a sound best showcased on his 2019 international chart-topper “Breaking Me” with A7S, which lives somewhere between hip-shaking beats and heartbreak, hugging the pop and dance worlds closer together. Born in 1992, Tobias Topic began making music at 16 after his teacher introduced him to audio software. After initially producing for other artists, Topic launched his own project with 2014’s “Light It Up,” and found chart success in 2016 with the nostalgic ballad “Home.” He has invited a variety of guest artists to his dance floor through numerous collaborations, including pop star Bebe Rexha, rapper Lil Baby, and Spanish German singer Alvaro Soler. Alongside his original work, Topic has updated rave classics such as ATB’s “9 PM (Till I Come)” and Zombie Nation’s “Kernkraft 400” with his melancholic touch for a new generation.
