Conversations With Christian

Album ∙ Jazz ∙ 2011

Christian McBride’s versatility is well established, but these intimate duets spell it out in all caps. The bassist works with artists from within and without the jazz tradition, testing boundaries at every turn. His muscular lines allow violinist Regina Carter to instill Bach’s melodies with blues on “Fat Bach and Greens,” his pulse drives the thunderous montuno grooves of legendary salsa pianist Eddie Palmieri on “Guajeo y Tumbao,” and his percussive attack bounces beneath Dee Dee Bridgewater on the Isley Brothers classic “It’s Your Thing.”
