The eternally inventive singer/producer Dev Hynes launches his Blood Orange moniker with a sharp set of tracks that pull influence from sultry R&B, funky electronic pop, and ‘80s New Wave. Coastal Grooves opens with “Forget It,” a barbed depiction of a failing relationship that’s powered by a slinky guitar line and Hynes’ light, airy vocals. Elsewhere, the evocative echoes of “Sutphin Boulevard” find him expertly harnessing dead space to give his orchestration an artful, dapper luster.
