Whether you know him as the timekeeper for one of America’s most beloved pop-punk bands or simply as the most heavily tattooed member of the Kardashian clan, Travis Barker has achieved an uncommon level of celebrity for an alt-rock drummer. But there’s another, less sexy reason for his perpetually high profile: He’s always eager to lend his talents and clout to an array of au courant cross-genre collaborators, Machine Gun Kelly and Trippie Redd among them. With 2021’s SURVIVORS GUILT: THE MIXTAPE, Cleveland emo upstart KennyHoopla made the leap from being a lifelong blink-182 fan to becoming Barker’s partner in punk, and their three-song reunion BLINK AND YOULL MISS IT// yields a similarly exhilarating whirl of mosh-pit-swirling energy and adrenalized melodies.

“SABOTAGE//” (not a Beastie Boys cover) is an instantly arresting showcase of Hoopla’s impassioned vocals and Barker’s dextrous stickwork, which splits the difference between punk overdrive and prog intricacy. But following that dramatic opening strike, Hoopla and Barker channel the more carefree feeling of Warped Tours past: If you were to sneak the breezily anthemic “MARRY KILL F*CK//” and hooky hardcore stomper “T SHIRT//” onto your early-2000s pool party playlist, your friends would be none the wiser.
