Since releasing the second installment of his YPSZN series in 2019, Nigerian rapper PsychoYP has found ways to expand his profile without diluting his sound. He’s become relentless, going on a release spree by gifting verses and dropping a project each year. While YPSZN2 was expansive, unfurling YP’s cocksure brags, showcasing his sonic range, and depicting his glamorous lifestyle, the direction on the final chapter of the trilogy is twofold: a showcase of his adventurous life and an illustration of the pains he endured to create it.
YP’s gritty voice drives the 15-track project, but the real draw is his heavy emphasis on imagery, occasionally immersing listeners in his experiences in Abuja and London. Standout “Bando Diaries” is the apex of the project, with charismatic rapper Odumodublvck amplifying YP’s grimy ad-libs with a commanding delivery. “Silent Mode” details YP’s opulent lifestyle and the Zlatan-assisted “Stronger” features his singsong tone. As the project nears its conclusion, PsychoYP immerses himself even further in his emotions on "Scandalous," spilling heartfelt tales over somber piano chords.
