In 1997, Canadian violinist Angèle Dubeau founded the all-women ensemble La Pietà, with whom she has made dozens of acclaimed recordings. Twenty-five years later, they celebrate their silver anniversary with this program of music written entirely by living women composers, alongside one track by 12th-century musical visionary Hildegard von Bingen. It’s a beautiful recital, ranging from the quirky “Eliza Aria,” by Soviet-born Australian composer/pianist Elena Kats-Chernin, to British composer Rebecca Dale’s icy portrait of “Winter.” There’s also the restless “Arise” by Fleabag composer Isobel Waller-Bridge and the cinematic sweep of British film composer Rachel Portman’s wistful “Flight.” Many of the pieces have been arranged by Dubeau herself, transforming them into thrilling showcases for a dream partnership.
