The lush and luxe Vértigo continues Spanish singer Pablo Alborán’s ambitious pop mission. Though he made his name with ballads such as “Perdóname” and “Solamente Tú,” his fifth album builds off the broader and bolder sounds of 2017’s Prometo. He simply thrives on “Si hubieras querido” and the rhythmically vibrant “La fiesta.” Even on deeply vulnerable cuts like “Hablemos de amor,” his evocative voice benefits from expressive instrumentation that raises the inherent stakes. The contrast between the dance-floor flirtations of “Dicen” and “Malabares” and quieter moments like “Que siempre sea verano” gives the album a riveting, almost cinematic momentum.
