Bespectacled, with braids and braces, Lil Tecca looks every inch the typical high schooler. His music, however, reveals a different reality and ambition than his classmates. After guest features and a big hit, “Ransom,” a fuller picture of the Queens-based rapper emerges. We Love You Tecca is his mission statement, filled with buzzy, boasting takes on the changing scenery. Tender piano on “Did It Again” and “Out of Luck” deepens the drama (producers on this project include Menoh Beats, Nick Mira, Taz Taylor, Etrou, Dystinkt Beats, and Rambow). Songs like “Shots” and “Sidenote” illustrate the annoyances that come with fame, while the tender “Love Me” nods to his Jamaican heritage.
