“Magic came at a transitional moment in my life,” BOJ tells Apple Music. “I had just moved back to Lagos and was still figuring things out.” Rhythmically capturing the energy of the city, the artist wielded a simplicity in his lyricism and crafted infectious melodies with Banky W., Falz, Willy Paul, Lady Jay, Ycee, Ayo Jay, Olamide, Simi, Wande Coal, and Seyi Shay. With smooth harmonies layered between production by Studio Magic, Magik, Adey, Kush, and HOD, Magic explores a range of sonic vibes. The fusion of these sounds into mellow pop and rhythmic Afrobeats appealed to a wide range of palates: the highlife-infused “Antidote” met the tropical “Aisha,” while the acoustic “Gbe Soke” sat alongside the romantic grooves of “Balance” and “Nowo.”
