The prolific HoodRich Pablo Juan’s South Dark is a seven-track sampler of hustler anthems and evocative wordplay in the vein of his 1017 label boss, Gucci Mane. Produced by Kenny Beats, the EP switches seamlessly between stripped-down, bass-boosted trap bangers (“Dead End”) and echoing, melodic anthems about working hard and playing harder (“Ruthless”). On “Hood,” he extolls the virtues of staying hood-rich instead of going Hollywood over rumbling 808s and lush synth melodies.
