Russian pianist Anna Vinnitskaya’s style is softer grained than some pianists. She’s not a barnstormer; instead she rides the waves of the concerto with great skill and a lot of passion and intensity. Her fleet-fingered pianism brings out the wit and sparkle of the Paganini Rhapsody. Conductor Krzysztof Urbański, a regular musical partner of Vinnitskaya, draws some stylish playing from a clearly inspired NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.
